A 15-year evolution in design, strategy, and performance
Pop Creative was officially registered as a limited company in 2009. The domain name was registered with us in 2001, however, from 2001 – 2009, it was effectively a sole trader and freelance business. in 2009, we were a classic full-service agency with a creative heart. We designed everything from posters and logos to wedding invitations and flyers—you name it, we’d design it. It was a 2- to 3-person agency and an energetic time. Our passion was creativity, and we were proud to bring colour and style to every client brief, big or small.
As the digital landscape matured, so did we. By 2014–18, we were becoming known not for just creative flair—but for our WordPress websites. Web design and development had quickly become our core business. We found ourselves gravitating toward the challenges and opportunities that websites presented, especially the question:
“Why do some designs work better than others?” and “Why do some forms seem to work better than others?”
We started paying close attention to user journeys, bounce rates, navigation behaviour, and conversion funnels. The focus on this came about from a client’s website re-design. Once we pushed the website live, the conversions dropped off a cliff….within 1 week we had redesigned the pages and saved the conversions…but then wondered…how can we do this for other clients?
In 2018, we ran our first-ever A/B test. Looking back now… well, it’s a little embarrassing. The data was thin, our confidence intervals were questionable, and we made all the rookie mistakes. But we were hooked.
Despite the missteps, that early test sparked something big:
A curiosity that never left us.
We kept experimenting, kept refining, and most importantly—kept learning.
Over the next few years, our projects became increasingly strategic. Clients didn’t just want “a new website”—they wanted more leads, better UX, and clarity on what was (and wasn’t) working.
We evolved into a CRO and UX agency—bringing together data, user behaviour, and creative thinking to drive results. We partnered with businesses across healthcare, law, travel, retail and more, helping them transform digital performance through human insight and continuous improvement.
Just before the COVID pandemic, Pop was offered a deal to sell to a global organisation. These talks carried on through lockdown, and whilst as tempting as it was to be part of a bigger group, we had a mission and wanted to stick to it. Helping our clients have more memorable, easy-to-use websites for their users was what drove us, and we didn’t want anything to change. We kept doubling down on the user experience. This became the most important thing to us.
The name Pop Creative served us well, but it no longer captured who we had become. A completely focused User Experience CRO agency, nothing else. We have been thinking about this for a while. UserBoost is the natural next step in our journey. A name that says what we do, without fluff.
